Travelling soundscape workshop – Second Edition

The second workshop of Travelling Soundscape Workshop, Viajando pela paisagem sonora was held at the University of Caxias do Sul (Brasil) from 23 to 31 October 2017 and had as its central axis the sound intended as cultural, territorial, landscape and educational heritage.

For man, enjoying the sounds of the universe has been a natural experience since the early days of humanity. Different peoples and cultures present different sound landscapes, and each sound landscape carries with it the feeling of belonging of the people who inhabit it.

Through the sound of words, man mentions the world. As a cultural element, as a product of human action, sound is also an element of the cultural landscape. The sounds produced by human activity are added to the natural sounds and become an illustration of the soundtrack of the rhythms and social agents of human action, giving each period of history a sound that characterizes it.

Objectives of the workshop:

  • To extend the knowledge of the sound dimension as a heritage, linked to the territory, landscapes, place, representations built by different groups and documentary sound sources.
  • To contribute to the realization of a shared sound mapping, centered on the acoustic dimension.
  • Reaching a reading and a “personal territorial listening” whose quality and depth will depend on the group involved.
